Saffron has anti-depressant properties and helps to improve respiratory and heart health, skin and digestive system and increases intelligence. Usually, this treasured and tasty plant is used in cooking after infusion.

Making brewed saffron has certain points that you should know before using it. Obviously, preparing it is not difficult at all, but knowing those hints makes saffron deliver more color. But how to brew the colorful and aromatic saffron?

  • Grinding

To brew saffron, it is better to grind it well until it is completely powdered. This way saffron delivers more color.

  • Hot Water

    ·       If you want to use it to prepare saffron rice, put powdered saffron into a glass cup or teapot and pour some boiling water into it. Place the cup on the steaming rice so that the saffron is simultaneously steamed with the rice.

  • Bain-marie method

Another method is to brew it by the bain-marie method; mixing saffron with boiling water in a Pyrex bowl (heat safe) and placing it on the samovar. If you don’t have a samovar, you can go with a double boiler. A double boiler is a pot of hot water simmering on the stovetop, and then placing the above-mentioned Pyrex bowl above the pot of boiling water.

  • Ice

To get more color, you can pour ground saffron into a glass cup and put a piece of ice on it. After the ice melts, pour some boiling water on it and wait for a while for the saffron to brew. With this method, saffron makes more color. Please note that this method of brewing saffron takes more time than other methods.

  • It is not necessary to grind saffron with sugar, since this will increase the brewing time.
  • Pay attention to the amount of water you pour into the saffron. The amount of water should not be more than saffron itself, because saffron becomes watery.
  •  Try to grind the saffron as much as you need and if you grinded more, keep it in a closed container so that it does not lose its aroma.
  • If you have brewed more saffron than you need, you can store it in the freezer and take it out a few minutes before consumption. You can also store it in a closed glass container in the refrigerator. It is better to keep it in the refrigerator for no more than two weeks. Otherwise, brewed saffron loses its taste and aroma.
